This was my husband’s and my third trip to New Zealand, although we had not been as far south as Dunedin on our first two visits.  We were very much looking forward to staying at Highland Peaks, and we most certainly weren't disappointed!

The accommodations are just wonderful and the Espies simply couldn't be more perfect hosts.   Not only did they offer the most gracious hospitality, they also willingly arranged our excursions and provided hours of marvelous conversation in front of a cozy fire.  Lovely meals, beautiful music, a welcoming cup of hot tea…what more could anyone ask?

We treasure the memories of the days we spent with Di and Peter, Jasper the cat and Bud, their wonderful, shaggy dog—and of course we mustn't forget the sheep!  For a city girl like me (I grew up in San Francisco), getting to meet and feed their sheep was great fun and quite the treat.

Although we've stayed at a number of B&B’s in our travels, this was one of those special occasions when we left feeling we had made very special, lifelong friends.

I flew in on my own as my husband was on the navy ship Te Mana which was due to arrive in
Dunedin the following day, so Peter picked me up at the airport and drove me up to Highland Peaks where I was greeted with hot coffee, a roaring fire and CJ the very cuddly pussy cat.

The next day, Di and I went out on a girls adventure day while waiting for my husband to arrive,
I had so much fun walking around the market, the art gallery and Olviston House.
While driving around, some of the local students gave us several different renditions of the one or
two fingered salute.... I haven't laughed so much in ages.

The following night two other guests arrived, and we all went to watch a rugby match between
the All Blacks and South Africa at "The House Of Pain".  It was a great game, especially for my
first time ever to a rugby match, topped off with coffee and a nice warm fire at the end of the evening.

We had a wonderful stay with Peter and Di, and highly recommend Highland Peaks to guests
who are looking for a friendly and personal stay in Dunedin.

Thank you very much for a lovely stay at Highland Peaks.

Right after arriving, we could enjoy the nice views and a cold beer talking to Di and other guests.

We had decided to dine in Highland Peaks, and we would recommend to do so to anyone
(sorry Di, you will have a lot to do ...).

It started with a very nice salmon, followed by a superb lamb. We let Peter choose the wine, which just fitted perfectly to every dish. We enjoyed very much Peter's explanations about wine and got very useful tips about which wineries we should visit in our trip to the north. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Di's dessert came accompanied by a wonderful dessert wine.

It was a very lovely "pre-Xmas evening", and as we got into our comfortable room (not before tasting a "schnapps"), we regret to have to leave such a lovely place the next morning.

We want to thank you again for the lovely Christmas we had and
your warm hospitality. In Singapore we decided to enjoy the great
wine for Wolfgang's 50th birthday together with the spectacular view on downtown. It was a great ''finale'' for the wonderful trip we had.

Pete, We were lucky to see three Hooker sealions and at the end of our trip we did an Albatross tour in Kaikoura and saw heaps of them flying and next to our boat. We have been more fascinated by them than the sperm whales. They are really great gliders....
