The
Dunedin area provides a wide variety of interesting
hiking trails, ranging from coastline and historic
sites, through native forest to tussock grasslands.
Most
tracks are suitable for people of average fitness and
are generally well-defined and well-formed.
Here
are a few examples...Pilot's Beach on the Otago
Peninsula, the Pineapple Track on Flagstaff, St Kilda
and St Clair ocean beaches, and the Tunnel Beach
walkway all offer great walking and picnicking
opportunities.
If
you are feeling extremely energetic you could try
hiking up the world's steepest street - Baldwin
Street in North Dunedin.
